Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa)
29 August 2018
On behalf of the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Consortium we are delighted to welcome you to the 11th African Society of Human Genetics (AfSHG) Conference being held at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Convention Centre, Kigali, Rwanda from 19th to 21st of September 2018.
This is the fourth time that the H3Africa Consortium is partnering with the AfSHG to host this premier conference on genomics research in Africa. The first joint event was in 2013 in Accra (Ghana), followed later by Dakar (Senegal) in 2016, and Cairo (Egypt) last year.
The theme of this meeting is Building skills and resources for genomics, epigenetics and bioinformatics research for Africa. The joint day will start with an excellent line up of guest speakers, and a tribute to Prof Bongani Mayosi, one of Africa’s top class scientists who we lost tragically. Among other papers, we anticipate several presentations from members of the H3Africa Consortium that will showcase the achievements made possible through strong collaborative research engendered in Africa by our Consortium. There will also be talks on Bioinformatics training and a panel discussion on Sustainability of Genomics and Human Genetics in Africa.
We are sure that members of the H3Africa Consortium will make many valuable contributions to this meeting and we hope to see our Fellows participate in the Young Researcher talks planned for one of the sessions. We also encourage H3Africa Consortium members to join the AfSHG, membership details can be found here: http://www.afshg.org/membership.html.
We look forward to what promises to be an excellent scientific program and opportunities for networking with other members of the society in Kigali.
